July’s network membership event was a hubbub of ideas about how we can better collaborate to make a difference for our communities.

Hi! My name is Emma and I have recently started with LinkAge as Community Development Coordinator for South Bristol, covering Magda’s maternity leave.

On Friday 21st June, Sally and Tracy from LinkAge Network joined a host of other charities and services, from across Bristol, to come together as part of Loneliness Awareness Week 2019. The family-friendly event titled ‘Be Together Bristol’, was held at the Colston Hall, and delivered by Bristol Music Trust and Marmalade Trust.

Thursday 20th June saw an evening full of people, music and delicious homemade Mexican food at Windmill Hill City Farm Café. Inspired by the Talking Tables cookery sessions, LinkAge Network’s partnership project with three of the city farms, A Feast with Talking Tables was a one-off event in celebration of food and age as part of this year’s Food Connections festival.

Tracy Edwards-Brown, Community Development Co-ordinator for North Bristol, and Lisa Dicker, resident volunteer in Sea Mills, spent Friday 14th June presenting Games on the Train to a room of 200 people at the GWR Community Rail Partnership conference.

LinkAge Network Bristol 10k Runners

On a sunny bank holiday Sunday Team LinkAge Network hit the streets of Bristol for the Simplyhealth Bristol 10K. A team of six runners from Bristol Energy and two from Almeda Facilities donned their LinkAge Network Vests and completed the course in glorious weather, with some personal bests achieved!

This spring saw the first Macmillan Activity Week for over 55’s in Bristol. Running from the 30th March – 5th April, the week was designed to support people aged 55+, who are living with and beyond cancer, to get active, have fun and feel better.

Since its launch in July 2018, the Post-Retirement Opportunities Project (PRO) has offered support to over 175 people who are approaching retirement, recently retired or facing redundancy. Events held in Bristol over the past nine months have covered a wide range of areas including volunteering, learning, working in later life, and general retirement planning.
