An activity week of taster sessions between Saturday 30th March – Friday 5th April 2019, to support people aged 55+ living with and beyond cancer in Bristol into regular activity.

The Macmillan Activity Week aims to connect with people with:

  • A wide range of physical and social activities available in Bristol.
  • Friendly, professional and supportive activity leaders.
  • New people, providing a great way to socialise.
  • An information ‘Activity Map’ for the week and beyond.

*Carers and close relatives are welcome to join in.

Activities will be free to attend during the Macmillan Activity Week, but booking is essential.

50+ Watersports Open Day

Saturday 30th March, 13:00 – 17:00 All-Aboard Watersports, Baltic Wharf, Underfall Yard, Cumberland Road, BS1 6XG Try the fantastic watersport activities available in the heart of the Bristol docks at All Aboard Watersports. Try out the different activities on offer including Sailing, Rowing, Kayaking, Guides Walks and Powerboat Trips. Visit the Centre and meet friendly instructors, staff and volunteers.
Gentle Exercise Monday 1st April, 14:00-15:00

Gentle Exercise is a fun class for everyone to enjoy, with seated and standing movement to music. Working on balance, strength, stability, motor and cognitive skills with use of weights, resistance bands and balls.
Dance Fit Monday 1st April, 11:45-12:45

Get fit at this fun class, with dance steps from Salsa, Jive, Bollywood, Ballroom, Swing, Latin and more! Wear fitness clothes and trainers.

Returners/Beginners to Cycling Tuesday 2nd April, from 10:30

Life Cycle, Create Centre, Smeaton Road, BS1 6XN

Get back in the saddle – come along with your bike or borrow one of ours for a short trip along some traffic free cycle paths. Gain cycle skills & build your confidence with our qualified instructor/ride leader.  About 1.5 to 2 hours with café stop.
Beginners Line Dancing Wednesday 3rd April, 13.15 – 14.15

Walking Multi-Sport Wednesday 3rd April, 13:00 -15:00

A low-impact, high fun session of different sports and activities to get pulses and smiles rising together! Delivered by specialist community coaches from the inclusion team at Bristol Bears Community Foundation, there will be the opportunity for adapted badminton, Boccia, New Age Kurling, parachute games, seated dance and a range of other fun ball related activities.
Time to Move Wednesday 3rd April, 10:00 – 11:00 Stapleton Church Hall, 23 Park Road, BS16 1AZ Move and stretch class to familiar and fun music. Come and enjoy this fun and friendly class, no matter your ability.

Energise! Introductory Session

Thursday 4th April, 12:30 -13:45

Easton Leisure Centre, Thrissel Street, Easton, BS5 0SW Energise is an exercise session for people who have cancer or are recovering from cancer. Come and try some gentle gym based exercises, supported by fitness instructors specially qualified to support people with cancer.
Qigong Thursday 4th April, 13:00 – 14:00 Macmillan Wellbeing Centre, Southmead Hospital, BS10 5NB For those who have had a cancer diagnosis and are undergoing, or have undergone treatment.
Walking Football Friday 5th April, 12:30 -13:30 Gloucestershire FA, Oaklands Park, Almondsbury, BS32 4AG This walking football session is part of a network of over 20 walking football sessions in Bristol & Gloucestershire. Walking Football has been found to significantly improve fitness, balance, mobility and also be a great benefit in meeting new people. This session is open to all abilities, some have played before and some have no prior experience, so you will be more than welcome to attend.
Tai Chi for Beginners Friday 5th April, 10:00-11:00 The Withywood Centre, Queen’s Road, BS13 8QA This friendly Tai Chi class focuses on balance, health and wellbeing with slow, rhythmic and meditative movements that help you find an inner calm.

Come along and join us. to give your whole body a gentle workout.

This is a beginner’s class, so no need to feel self-conscious about not having done Tai Chi. No special clothing required, just flat shoes and easy to move in clothing.
