Legitimate Interest Statement

Legitimate Interest Statement

Under the new General Data Protection Regulation starting 25 May 2018, LinkAge Network will have a number of lawful reasons that we can use (or ‘process) your personal information. One of the lawful reasons is called ‘legitimate interests’.

Broadly speaking legitimate interests means that we can process your personal information if:

– We have a genuine and legitimate reason and we are not harming any of your rights and interests

What does that mean?
When you provide your personal details to us we use your information for our legitimate business interests to carry out our work to create lasting solutions that strengthen communities, improve health and wellbeing, and reduce social isolation among older people. Before doing this, we will carefully consider and balance any potential impact on you and your rights.

Some typical examples of when we might process your data for legitimate business interests are:
– For direct marketing
– Engaging with community and voluntary sector representatives/organisations
– Enhancing, modifying or improving our services
– Determining the effectiveness of our programmes, projects, membership and fundraising

LinkAge Network is a widely known charity in the South West of England (predominately in Bristol and the surrounding areas) working to reduce social isolation among older people. We believe that the individuals whose information we hold on our contact database are fully aware of the nature of their relationship with us and the mutually beneficial reasons for remaining in contact. We will ensure we provide you with the most appropriate information, marketing and services.

Our interests
The following are examples of when and why we would use your personal information for our legitimate business interests to support us in our work to create lasting solutions that strengthen communities, improve health and wellbeing and reduce social isolation among older people:
– Direct Marketing
We will contact you by post with marketing material (e.g. What’s On Guides) and email or post fundraising asks which further the aims and objectives of LinkAge Network. We will make sure our communications are relevant to you, tailored to your interests.
– Information sharing with individuals/organisations in the community/voluntary sector
Where the processing enables us to communicate by email or post relevant information to individuals/organisations who may need or are receiving support, assistance or information to help them start-up and develop with the aim of becoming sustainable.
– Research
To determine the effectiveness of promotional campaigns and advertising and to develop our programmes, projects, services, offers, systems and relationships with you.
– Due Diligence
We may need to conduct investigations on supporters, potential customers and business partners to determine if those companies and individuals have been involved or convicted of offences such as fraud, bribery and corruption.

We will ensure you have the opportunity to update or withdraw your consent on these communications.

Your interests
When we process your personal information for our legitimate interests, we will consider and balance any potential impact on you and your rights under data protection and any other relevant law. Our legitimate business interests do not automatically override your interests – we will not use your personal data for activities where our interests are overridden by the impact on you (unless we have your consent or are otherwise required or permitted to by law).

For more information about your rights, please see ‘Your Rights’ in our Privacy Policy.
