Call for local walking groups to step forward together for the 2018 Bristol Walk Fest – May 1 to May 31

Organisers of local walking groups and walking events are being invited to step forward and sign up to the city’s hugely popular, annual walking festival – the Bristol Walk Fest, a celebration of walking and walks throughout the city. The 2018 Bristol Walk Fest runs from May 1 to May 31, 2018.

Bristol’s month-long walking festival, now in its sixth successful year, regularly attracts over 500 walkers from across the city and beyond. Walkers can take part in a variety of walks, including: history trails; urban exploring; walking sports; gentle park strolls and vigorous uphill hikes.

This year the team co-ordinating Bristol Walk Fest is Active Ageing Bristol, a collaboration between Bristol Sport Foundation, The Anchor Society and St Monica Trust, in partnership with the LinkAge Network and Bristol Ramblers with investment from the TravelWest Fund.

“We’d like to see anyone involved in local walking groups, events and initiatives to come forward and join this year’s Walk Fest.” says Karen Lloyd, Active Ageing Bristol Manager. “It would be fantastic if together, we could offer a full programme of walks every day of the festival, from early-bird morning dawn chorus walks to lunchtime power walks for city centre workers and afternoon hikes across The Downs and even, evening rambles.

By coming together, Bristol’s much-loved walk groups can help to encourage and inspire more local people to get walking. And everyone taking part can experience the fun of walking – as well as the social and health benefits regular walking in our parks, woodlands and dedicated footpaths can bring.

I’m confident the 2018 Walk Fest programme will showcase the many excellent walking opportunities that already exist in the city and will further underpin Bristol as the healthy walks capital of the UK.”

Local walking organisations are invited to submit a walk or event for the 2018 Bristol Walk Fest by close of day on Monday, 26 February. An event submission form can be found at www.bristolwalkfest.com
